What is the Strong Interest Inventory?

The Strong Interest Inventory (Strong) is a powerful career assessment tool designed to help you better understand your interests and how they connect to potential careers or college majors. It’s especially helpful if you’re feeling unsure about what path to take or if you’re exploring options and want some direction.

How to take the Strong Interest Inventory

Currently FREE for registered UM students!

  1. Email: elcs@umontana.edu and include the following information:
    1. Subject line: Schedule Strong Interest Inventory
    2. Body: Full name, 790#, Preferred email, Class level, Major(s)/Minor(s), a brief description of why you’d like to take the Strong, and your availability for an appointment over the next 2 weeks.
  2. You will receive an email from an ELCS Career Coach within 2 business days with your confirmed appointment date/time and instructions on how to take the Strong Interest Inventory.
    1. This may come from an email address you do not recognize, so please keep an eye out for the subject line “ELCS Strong Interest Inventory Instructions & Appointment Confirmation.”
  3. Take the Strong Interest Inventory online at your convenience at least 24 hours prior to your scheduled appointment time.

$20 for alumni and prospective students.

  1. Submit payment of $20 and this DEPOSIT SLIP to Student Accounts in-person – Aber Hall 5th Floor, or via phone (406) 243-2223. The deposit slip has all the info you will need to provide.
  2. Email your receipt to: elcs@umontana.edu
    1. Subject line: Schedule Strong Interest Inventory
    2. Body: Full name, 790#, Preferred email, graduation year (or Prospective Student), Brief description of why you’d like to take the Strong, and your availability for an appointment over the next 2 weeks.
    3. Attachment: Image or PDF of receipt (or transaction number) from Student Accounts.
  3. You will receive an email from an ELCS Career Coach within 2 business days with your confirmed appointment date/time and instructions on how to take the Strong Interest Inventory.
