Students – Kickstart your career journey with the Griz Career Skills Program, your fast track to gaining some seriously impressive career skills.  The program will boost your abilities in the areas that are in the highest demand among employers across industries: workplace performance, communication, critical thinking, teamwork, career and self-development, leadership, and community and global engagement.  Not only will you master these skills, but we’ll also coach you on how to package and present your newfound talents for future careers in any field.

  • Earn digital badges and a microcredential (non-academic) to add to your resume and LinkedIn profile.
  • This program is asynchronous, making it easy for you to make progress at your own pace.
  • Many campus departments will allow you to complete this program during work hours.  Just ask your supervisor!
  • Learn how to connect your classroom experiences to your career aspirations and gain confidence in the skills you’re developing.
  • Learn how to effectively articulate your skills to future employers.
  • Those who complete the program by April 2026 will be invited to an awards ceremony.

Griz Career Skills can provide you with a great opportunity to improve your career skills and help you prepare for life after graduation.”
– Junior, PTRM Major

The program is offered asynchronously through Canvas and can be done at your own pace (the only deadline is graduation)! Each module offers a combination of videos, articles, reflective assignments, case studies, and tools to help you apply the principles learned to your current work activities. You will also receive guidance to help articulate relevant skills in the job search.

Flexible Pathways to Completion

Follow this pathway to engage fully with the program and earn a microcredential upon completion.  You’ll earn a digital badge for completing each of the following modules (each requiring about 2 hours of work):

  • Communication
  • Workplace Performance
  • Critical Thinking
  • Teamwork
  • Career and Self-Development
  • Leadership (new Fall 2025)
  • Community and Global Engagement (new Fall 2025)
  • Wellbeing (coming Spring 2026)
  • Technology & AI (coming Spring 2026)

Upon earning the first 5 badges, you will also earn a microcredential (not an academic credential), and be recognized at an Awards Ceremony in spring.  Badges and the microcredential can be displayed on your LinkedIn and Handshake profiles and listed on your resume.

We recognize that each student will enter this program with a different level of experience, clarity, interest, and knowledge related to their career development.  If supported by your sponsoring supervisor/faculty (if applicable), you have the option to jump through the modules in any order, selecting the content and assignments of greatest interest and benefit to your development.

If you complete all assignments in a module, you will earn the corresponding digital badge.  Digital badges can be earned in any order.  However, a microcredential can only be earned after earning all digital badges.

Students who consider themselves to be at an advanced stage of work experience and career preparedness, and who are not interested in earning the digital badges and micro-credential, may wish to participate in an abbreviated version of this program.  Please discuss this preference with your supervisor/faculty (if completing as a requirement of employment or a course).

Students who wish to enroll simply complete this form and to gain access to the Canvas shell within two business days.

Supervisors, staff and faculty who wish to enroll their students as part of student employment or a course, please follow the instructions on the page below.
