Connect with Our Students
UM’s employer and student job portal, Handshake is a free platform that helps employers connect with students and alumni from the University of Montana. In Handshake, employers can: post jobs and internships, register for events and career fairs, and use the platform’s powerful applicant filtering system.Â
Career fairs are a traditional and impactful way to connect with students on campus. ELCS hosts a wide variety of fairs, both broad and niche, to try and connect the diverse populations of both employers and students.Â
Check out all of our upcoming fairs on our Attend a Career Fair page.
The University Center (UC) is where you’ll find a steady flow of student foot traffic. By tabling in the UC, you are gaining exposure to students in a fairly informal setting.
Please follow the below instructions to inquire about tabling/recruiting at the University of Montana:
- Make sure your company has an active Handshake profile approved with UM. The representative attending or otherwise in charge of recruitment and applications should have a Handshake profile associated with the company’s account. The company account should have up-to-date information and preferably open/active job postings.
- If you are new to Handshake and need to set up a company account or need to set up a profile with an existing company account, please use these instructions on Getting Started with Handshake: Employers
- Once you are set up in Handshake, send an email to karey.sabol@mso.umt.edu to inquire about tabling in the University Center and include 2-3 possible dates that work for you.
- We recommend Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday as the middle of the week is usually busier on campus. We also suggest the hours of 11am-2pm as that is when most students will be around the University Center for lunch.
- *Sending this email does not ensure that your request will be approved. The dates provided may not be available and the individual in charge of scheduling may reach out with alternative dates or further instructions.
- *We do not permit anyone to table during weekends, the week of official career fairs, the first week of the semester, or during finals week.Â
- We recommend Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday as the middle of the week is usually busier on campus. We also suggest the hours of 11am-2pm as that is when most students will be around the University Center for lunch.
- If your request is approved, you will get a confirmation email that will include parking instructions and a copy of our recruiting policies. If you do not receive a confirmation email, no reservation is in place and you are not permitted to occupy a table in the UC. Â
We encourage students to search for employment and internship opportunities via Handshake. In order to provide the best experience for students, we ask that employers wishing to recruit at the University of Montana utilize Handshake for posting jobs and connecting with students. We appreciate your cooperation and willingness to work with us.
Throughout the year, ELCS plans and hosts several opportunities for employers to participate in workshops or panels for students. The content or purpose of each workshop or panel can vary widely, but they provide an excellent opportunity to connect with students in a smaller, more intimate setting on a specific topic. If you are interested in learning more about upcoming workshops or panels, or would like to host your own, please email karey.sabol@umontana.edu
Alumni employers are invited to join Griz Career Network to connect with other alumni and current students. The platform allows for opportunity sharing, flash mentorship, and skill building.
We are excited to highlight an opportunity for our corporate and nonprofit partners to offer short-term, professional, paid work experiences to current students through Micro-Internships. Through Micro-Internships, students can demonstrate their skills, explore career paths, and develop their professional networks. Unlike a traditional internship, these paid opportunities typically range from 10 to 40 hours of work, and most can be done remotely. Not only does this help the students, but it allows you as employers to get immediate support and enhance your company’s pipeline for future interns and new hires.Â
