Career Fair FAQ’s

Standard registration (for two representatives) includes:

  • One table
  • Two chairs
  • One parking space
  • Light refreshments

Details may vary slightly by fair. For specifics, see the Handshake registration link in the fair list above.

The designated parking area is the top level (R-3) of the R Parking Structure. One space per registered employer is included at no extra cost.

See th UM parking Map. R-3 is located near the bottom right hand corner.

*Alternate paid parking is available in marked hourly lots.

This depends on the fair, but generally, students are in the exploratory phase of their career journey. They may not always arrive in formal attire with a polished resume—but they are eager, personable, and ready to engage. Keep the conversation casual and welcoming.

Review each fair’s details in the section above. If you’re unsure, contact the fair’s point of contact (POC). We’re happy to help you find the best fit!

  4. Make your booth welcoming:
    • Bring table signage, banners, brochures
    • Have your business cards handy
    • Set up an interactive displays (if you have one)

    • Post on Handshake

    • Plan ahead by reviewing the approval packet and logistics email
    • Plan a follow-up strategy. Encourage students to “check-in” on Handshake to keep the conversation going!

  • Cancellations received in writing via email prior to three weeks before the date of the fair qualify for a full refund. No refunds will be given after the deadline date.
  • If the organization is a “no show,” the registration will not be refunded.
  • If the organization is a “no show” and is unpaid prior to the day of the fair, the organization will not be permitted to attend future fairs or events with ELCS and UM until the registration is paid.
  • Registrations are non-transferable.
  • Employer weather related cancellations will not be refunded by ELCS. Should ELCS cancel a career fair due to weather, all employers will be refunded their full registration fee.

Other Recruiting Opportunities at UM

The University Center (UC) is where you’ll find a steady flow of student foot traffic. By tabling in the UC, you are gaining exposure to students in a fairly informal setting.

Please follow the below instructions to inquire about tabling/recruiting at the University of Montana:

  • Make sure your company has an active Handshake profile approved with the University of Montana. The representative attending or otherwise in charge of recruitment and applications should have a Handshake profile associated with the company’s account. The company account should have up-to-date information and preferably open/active job postings.
  • Once you are set up in Handshake, send an email to karey.sabol@mso.umt.edu to inquire about tabling in the University Center and include 2-3 possible dates that work for you.
    • We recommend Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday as the middle of the week is usually busier on campus. We also suggest the hours of 11am-2pm as that is when most students will be around the University Center for lunch.
      • *Sending this email does not ensure that your request will be approved. The dates provided may not be available and the individual in charge of scheduling may reach out with alternative dates or further instructions. We do not submit requests or permit anyone to table during weekends, the week of official career fairs, the first week of the semester, or during finals week.
  • If your request is approved, you will get a confirmation email that will include parking instructions and a copy of our recruiting policies. If you do not receive a confirmation email, no reservation is in place and you are not permitted to occupy a table in the University Center.

We encourage students to search for employment and internship opportunities via Handshake. In order to provide the best experience for students, we ask that employers wishing to recruit at the University of Montana utilize Handshake for posting jobs and connecting with students. We appreciate your cooperation and willingness to work with us.

Throughout the year, ELCS plans and hosts several opportunities for employers to participate in workshops or panels for students. The content or purpose of each workshop or panel can vary widely, but they provide an excellent opportunity to connect with students in a smaller, more intimate setting on a specific topic. If you are interested in learning more about upcoming workshops or panels, or would like to host your own, please email karey.sabol@umontana.edu.
